Check list for building your first list online part 2

In the first part of this series on building your first list online, I talked about your bait to give away for free and also about using an autoresponder.

Today, my focus will be on value, value and more value for list building.

We see the term 'value' get bandied around in Internet marketing circles but do we really understand what it means? Do we really appreciate what 'value' is? Here's 4 quick key points to ensure your freebie or 'bait' passes the 'value test'.

Do this right and your list will be super responsive to you!

1) Are you defining 'value' from your point of view or your audience's point of view? There is a difference you know! Are you defining value like this:

"Oh I got a free book somewhere I've found in my hard disk. It's valued at $37 but I'm gonna use it as a bait to build my list!"

This is a wrong way of thinking because you're thinking from YOUR perspective.

"Oh I've gotta think about and research what my audience really wants and then source for the materials to give it away!"

This is the right way of thinking because you're defining value from your prospects perspective!

By thinking of value from your audience's point of view you're essentially crushing your competition by raising the bar in terms of value for your bait.

Not only that - you're also demonstrating that you're different from your competitors by virtue of you giving them what they actually want!

2) Did you spend some time creating, poring through and going over the bait?

I dare say 95% of marketers don't give a hoot about what they are giving away to build a list. Again, this is wrong.

One strategy I've learned is that when most people in my niche head right, I zag left. It's the same for this, don't be the 'same old same old' person. Do actually care about what you're feeding your audience and subscribers.

Put some thought into it - it will build you much goodwill, response and will invoke the persuasion element of reciprocity.

3) Do you intend to sell sell and sell somemore?

Selling is fine. In fact selling is a great way to deepen relationships. (I'll demonstrate why in future posts) But if you're selling something the moment someone opts in - you've just sacrificed an opportunity to build a bond.

Think about it this way: would you rather buy Insurance from a friend you trust or a complete stranger? It's a no-brainer right? Of course your friend!

That's who you want to be - you want to be their friend. Their trusted advisor. So you can sell them more and sell them higher priced items!

4) Golden rule: Don't peddle crap.

Don't sell or promote something because it pays you the most commissions. Think about if it really would benefit your prospects and your list. If you do that, you'll make much much more money in the long term I promise you that!

Also, if you push or sell products that are broke, don't work and are just plain scam. Guess what happens next? Your list will desert you!

Ok, so this is the 2nd part of check lists for building your first list online. I'll see you really soon for the next post!

So you wanna build a list? Here's the very first step:

So you've probably landed on this page because you wanted to build a list or perhaps wanted to learn how to make money with list building?

Well, you're honestly on the RIGHT page, because in this blog, I'm gonna share with you exactly how to do that. In this blog, I'm gonna share with you all my secrets and tricks to building a big responsive list and how to monetize from that list. And I'm gonna do this all for free.

Why? Well its a long story and I shall not bore you with it but you probably know me and my products. In fact, I'm a pretty famous Internet Marketer. BUT, I'm not using my real identity here.

Anyways, let's stick to the topic on hand shall we?

The first step to building your opt in list:

The #1 step you need to do is to not try to build a huge list.

"What!! Hey Mr. List Building Guy, are you bonkers? Everyone knows that the way to riches is to build a super big list right??"

Well I'm not surprised you think this way, after all that's what all the gurus teach isn't it?

They teach you to quickly and rapidly build a huge list and retire on income generated from that list.

Here's a quick reality check for you: IT DOESN'T WORK!!

The reality is, guys with huge lists often have very very poor results with click through rates and open rates on their emails because most of the leads on their lists are unresponsive! There's 2 reasons:

1) Their leads are crap.
2) They've been promoting the shi*t outta their list so much so that they are unresponsive.

Instead of going for the big list, all my list building strategies revolve around getting tiny but super targeted lists.

Lists that I look after, care and nurture...(that's another lesson for another day)

But today, I want to reveal the logic behind building small but targeted lists and why they are so bloody profitable:

Profits From A New List I Created

Well, you might not believe it but I got the income I had above from a puny list of just 3000 people...Puny it might be but its uber profitable by virtue of them being very very targeted!

Think about it for a sec, how many people's squeeze page are really targeted? Are they going for the main general population or a specific niche?

A main general squeeze page will probably scream at you: "Would you like to make $500 within 2 days?" since most people in IM want to make money online (duhh) they would sign up because it is, well, general.

But what happens after that? They promote this and that and this and that. PPC, PPV, SEO, Mobile Marketing...basically anything that can make a quick buck for them!

I'm not saying this isn't profitable but it sure isn't sustainable.

On the other hand, if I've targeted a specific audience, I would have a squeeze page with something like "Would you like to see the case study of me making $200 in a week simply by placing ads on Facebook?"

This is a much more specific call to action and on this list, I would ONLY ever promote products that are related to Facebook marketing and send content related to it.

The end result is this: Less people get 'burnt' and unsubscribe. By virtue of my targeted marketing, all my related promos to this niche list is gonna get sky high - and I don't just send promos after promos. I send good content as well.

(By the way, the above 'headlines' are totally poor headlines, I wouldn't recommend you use those headlines at all, more on that in my next few posts)

So can you see which is the winner?

Start thinking about how you can build your list in a more targeted fashion and think more like a smart marketer - not a marketer that copies what everyone else is doing.

At the end of the day, what really matters isn't about bragging whose list size is bigger - it is about who is making more money from their list building efforts. Besides, targeted list building cost less money, requires less effort but make more money in the long run, how cool is that??

Targeted specific traffic beats large scattered unspecific traffic all day long.

I'll see you next time with more content on this blog, if you wanna stay updated, do add this blog to your bookmark or subscribe to feed or connect with Google...its all on the right hand side of this blog.

See you soon!
